Membership : Structure
A New Direction in Australian Golf was the underlying theme that The National Golf Club adopted when it pioneered its administrative organisation and membership structure in 1985.
In order to join the golf club Members must hold a share in National Golf Holdings Limited - an unlisted public company which owns and manages all the assets on behalf of the Members/Shareholders. This enables Members to own their membership as a valued investment which can later be transferred, bequeathed or 'leased' out to another person, subject to approval and costs.
The success of this model combined with the significant increase in NGH assets and share values over time, have resulted in numerous other Clubs around the country emulating The National's innovative structure.
Furthermore, the Club atmosphere that is found at 'traditional clubs' has not been compromised by this commercial approach. The Club now has over 2600 Members from all walks of life, many of them industry leaders and well-known personalities.
