Leading into yesterday’s announcement from the Premier of Victoria was an air of anticipation that restrictions relating to golf would be eased in the short term – alas, we had no such luck and golf remains closed for the time being.  However the authorities have indicated they may be able to bring forward the next step in re-opening Metropolitan Melbourne, which should see golf resume one week earlier than initially anticipated. Our target date for re-opening the Club has now moved to Monday 19th October, although nothing is guaranteed given the easing of restrictions is highly dependent on COVID-19 case numbers averaging 5 per day over a 14-day period.

Golf Australia (GA), the country’s governing body for the sport of golf, has continued to advocate on behalf of all Victorian Clubs for a return to golf as soon as possible.  This includes the submission of a Return to Play plan which would enable golf to resume in a safe environment with minimal risk.

Over the next 3 weeks the Club will communicate various details of the planned format for the return to golf.  This will include changes to the Club programme, how the Clubhouse will operate, access to practice facilities and more.  It is our intention to open as many of the Club’s facilities as possible within the requirements of the law and a COVID-19 safe environment and to that end the Management team have been thinking of creative ideas.  For example all Club owned golf carts now have plastic dividers installed to separate cart passengers which will substantially limit the possibility of virus transmission or breaching social distancing rules and allow more member access to carts and a greater sense of playing together.

Club Policies
During the recent closure the Committee has also been working on a number of Club policies including Pace of Play, Member Code of Conduct and Dress Code and we will communicate the details of these over the coming weeks, starting today with the Club’s Dress Code.

Dress Code
The Club has always expected members and guests to be well-groomed in appearance when at the Club.  However, well-groomed is a subjective term that changes over time and accordingly the Club strives to evolve while maintaining an appropriate degree of decorum.  In this spirit we have made some small changes to the Dress Code to allow:

  • Socks of any colour, style or length which are neat in appearance (except Football socks)
  • Denim jeans which are neat in appearance anywhere in the Clubhouse (but not on the golf course)

We are confident our members know what is and what is not appropriate, yet the Club remains the final arbiter of suitable dress. Please familiarise yourself with the full details of the revised Dress Code by clicking here

Annual Subscription Rebate
We have received some queries about the Club’s position in terms of refunds or rebates on member annual subscriptions considering the recent Club closure.  At this stage it is too early to make any decision in this regard given the current number of unknowns involved e.g. How long will the Club be closed?; Will the Club be forced into another lockdown?; What will the Club’s financial position be like? etc.  As the Club did for the end of the 30 June 2020 financial year, a decision will be made when all of the required amount of information is at hand and it will be made in the best interest of members and the future of the Club.

Courses
The golf courses are continuing to be maintained by the ground staff and the recent change in season has brought our grasses back to life – the courses will have every reason to be in great condition when you return and be presented to the high standard to which we have all become accustomed.  Until then, stay well, keep checking the website for updates and start preparing yourself for a return to golf – we cannot wait to see you again.
